2013 Social Media vs. 1951 Newspaper Clippings...

After searching the library in Deerlick Miss Fleener found an old, brief but factual news article that explained coach's dark secret - in today's world of social media and inaccurate reporting, he'd be instantly condenmed by billions - perhaps based soley on inaccurate "media pundit" reporting or rumors posted on social media sites, and likely not allowed to teach at all, but as the film showed he made a mistake and over time and due to the silent world of technology at the time was given another chance after his return to civilian life, and did well...

As the old saying goes, too much information can also be a bad thing, and that's the trouble today - because of social media people are instantly condemned and never allowed a chance to learn from their mistakes and often do not or are not allowed to try again, because unlike technology life's lessons take time, and as in coach's case often take years to go from error to later success...

Would Coach Dale have survived in today's world of instant condemnation - probably not, but in the 1951 world he was given another chance by an old friend and went on to succeed...

In today's world, a Division I college coach who had been fired for punching a player 15 years before would never be able to go anywhere 'incognito.' Fans would remember his name and Google him up within 30 seconds.

On the other hand, having been in the Navy for 10 years or more his image would probably been 'rehabilitated.'

Especially since his 15 years in the Navy would have included service in World War II.
