i had no idea what was going on. did anyone else find it confusing?
i wanted to really like this film and have known about it for a while because i have a friend named Hannah who was named after the movie, or something.
I don't think it's particularly confusing. What was it that confused you?

You are probably very young (which is kinda confirmed by the fact that you have a friend who was named after this film..;))
It's all about relationships and about the indomitable impulses of the human "heart" that can make people do all kinds of things, regardless of their age and position in life.
(Which is ultimately a good thing, Allen seems to be saying.)
Still, I would like to know what did you find confusing.
i found it very straight forward. lee, elliott, holly, and mikey are all confused in life and searching. some REALIZE they are searching, some are distracted by stupid affairs.
they all end up growing in the right direction, either on purpose like holly and lee, or kind of by accident, like elliot.
it is a simple picture of how life really is for a few nuerotic, semi-well to do people.
it brings up questions of meaning.

It took me like half an hour, maybe a bit more, to get all the characters straight. But once I reached that point, it wasn't confusing. You just have to be patient and go with the flow for a while. If it bothers you that you don't understand everything immediately, then there's a whole large class of movies that you'll want to avoid.

i suppose this is a film where one has to pay attention and think/follow the story. i guess that might be difficult for the younger generation.
really, just how in the world can the OP keep track of 3 women in a film? must be impossible!
