Fanny and Alexander

I loved the references in this film to Fanny and Alexander, one of my favorite films. I know that Woody Allen loves Bergman. F&A was made only four years before Hannah, but the structure and tone of this film is so similar to that one.

I can see what you mean, It did't remind me F&A while I was watching it, but now that I'm thinking about it you're right. Besides that, as I was watching the movie I felt the influences from Bergman, not to the structure and tone of the movie, but in the way that he deepens to human emotions, the contradictions they contain, and in the relationship between the sisters. Although in a very different way from Bergman, he's kind of doing the same thing. ( Ι'm sorry for any grammar or vocabulary mistakes!)

I got that too. Woody's always borrowing but when he's at his best it's hard to notice. Bergman is his god (rightfully so) and F&A was a big deal. There's no question it planted the seeds for Hannah. Two great films in their own right and both directors at the absolute top of their game.

reply

Absolutely. And don't forget Max Von Sydow (a Bergman actor) is on the film
