This movie was so good
I've always enjoyed Woody Allen's films, and I can't believe I haven't seen this until now. The film is so well balanced and the humor is excellent as it is in all of Allen's films. Better than Platoon in my opinion.

shareBetween 'September' and 'Crimes and Misdemeanors', I'd say that Allen's filmography is as strong, if not BETTER than any American Filmmaker I can think of. Maybe Kubrick and Scorsese, both had some wonderful runs and there are others as well... But between the 2 films I mentioned, 'Annie Hall' 'Manhattan' 'Stardust Memories' 'Hannah and Her Sisters' and another favorite of mine, 'Radio Days', it's just a remarkable set of films and certainly a time in Cinema I'm very fond of and Woody just absolutely OWNED the era. He just spoke for that time, he understood it. This just swings around, back and forth, witty, funny, emotionally charged. Such a great film
shareI think you must have meant something else besides September, as most of the films you list were released before September, not between September and Crimes and Misdemeanors. The earliest movie you mentioned was Annie Hall, so I'm going to assume you meant "between Annie Hall and Crimes and Misdemeanors". And I would tend to agree with you, as my Top 4 Woody Allen films were all released in that span, with my #5 coming just three years later, in 1992:

(And I've seen 17 of the 23 movies Allen made (wrote and directed) before 1993, plus another 10 of the 23 he's made since then.)
Like you, I consider Allen one of the best filmmakers of all time. He has made eight films that I give at least 9/10 (including one that's a 10/10, Stardust Memories), and six of those eight are from the period of time you are talking about, or close (as I say, Husbands and Wives was 1992). But although he has mostly not been nearly as good in the past twenty years, he has made two in the 21st century that rate a 9/10 from me: Match Point and Blue Jasmine. So he's still "got it", in my opinion, at least intermittently.
P.S. I do have to disagree about Radio Days, though. That one did not work for me.
