The narration voicing the character's thoughts
I loved it. There is a conventional wisdom, it seems, among modern-day film critics that narration is cheesy, and further, that voiceovers which reveal a character's thoughts are especially unfortunate and to be avoided at all costs. I have always resisted this way of thinking, and rewatching this film, it struck me as an excellent Exhibit A for the counterargument.
