Question about Hannah

Does anybody know if in the original script for the film there were more scenes with Hannah? It just seemed strange to me that so much time was devoted to Mickey, Elliot, Holly & Lee, but not as much to Hannah by comparison.

I don't know the answer to this but I wondered about the lack of Hannah in the film as well. Elliot yells at her because he feels she never needs anything from him, which is a sentiment that is apparently shared by her sister Holly, but that never really came across to me. In fact, the scene where Hannah asks Elliot about having a baby seems to contradict that notion. I wonder if maybe Hannah and her relationships with the other characters were a little more developed in a different version of the script.

Apparently Woody and Mia both had trouble working 'Hannah' out during the film. They couldn't really tell whether she was a good person or not, and this led to a certain ambiguity surrounding the character. I suspect that they edited her character down and had the story take place around her, instead of making her the focus of the film.

The less Mia Farrow the better - and this applies to any and all movies (with the possible exceptions of Rosemary`s Baby and Broadway Danny Rose). Even with the limited screentime she received here, she was a big enough annoyance.

Have you seen John and Mary? She and Dustin Hoffman were wonderful in that film.

Even though Hannah doesn't have as much screen time as the others, her presence hovers over almost everything. Her professional success and the combination of dependence and resentment the others have toward her is the engine that drives the film.

By design, I think. Hannah represented a set of goals and values. She's there for the other characters to react to. If she was more of a real person it would be easier to judge the actions of the other characters. Does she deserve adultery, freeloading, infertility?
