Mr. Yarrell

Can anyone tell me why Charles Dance's character Sardo Numspa cannot pronounce words that have a "J" in them?

He says Mr. Yarrell instead of Jarrell. He says Adyanti instead of Adjanti and he also says (in the dream sequence) I could destroy you yust like that.

What's up with that?

Remember in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?

At a guess I would say that it is connected to the fact that "Jehova" (God) is spelled with a "Y" and pronounced with a "J"?

There must be a more eloquent way to put this tho...

I think it is just his accent.

I think you'll find "in the Latin alphabet, Jehovah is spelt with an 'I'"

Just ask Uncle Sean...

Indeed there is. Sardo could have been, and probably was, of German descent. their Js are almost invariably (with the exception of ONE American-borrowed word, "Jackett") -- pronounced like Ys.

Just food for thought :)

Well mebbe not one word but a few words... but the J is pronounced like a Y.

I think its because J stands for Jesus.

In Latin there are no Js or Ws. Also (1) Hebrews are forbidden to speak or say the name of God, and (2)In early Hebrew, as well as many other early languages, there were no vowell sounds in their writings. So they wrote it as such: JHVH, so when translated to Latin It would be IHVH. The English language adds the letter Y to replace the sound made by I in Latin, and in Latin V makes a "oo" sound like a W, hence the difference between Jehovah and Yahweh or Yehweh.

Long way of saying he is a demon and therefore speaks English with an Latin accent(?).

Truly, just a little idiosicracy Charles Dance threw into the part.

Maybe we should ask him.

How are the Hebrews forbidden to speak the Name of Yahuah (God)?? All throughout the Scriptures, Yahuah asks His people to KNOW His Name!! It is the Law of the Talmud that forbids people to speak the Name, not the Torah. The Talmud adds to the Torah and forbids the speaking of the Name of Yahuah. But the Book of Acts clearly states that the Name of Yahuah is the only Name that saves.
