I think the hamster may have been a gerbil, hence why the "hamster" wheel was too small.

Interesting. I wonder if the gerbil wheel was too expensive and/or the hamsters wanted to much for their acting time on screen. I would imagine that gerbils work for far cheaper than their hamster counterparts.
