Technically shouldn't this be set in the mid 90's?

Ok the first movie is clearly stated to be set in 1980, then its 5 years later in part 2 which makes the year 1985, and parts 3 and 4 are just 2 days after the events of part 2. So in The Final Chapter the year is 1985 which is almsot accurate to the time part 4 was made in.

And Tommy looks to be at least 10 in part 4, part 5 the character appears to be about 17 which puts it about 6 or 7 years after the events of part 4 so we should be in 1992 in part 5. In part 6 Tommy is clearly older i would say he's in his early 20's so the year should be at least 95 or 96.

Yeah i don't think we're told what year it is in the movie so you could say "Well it could be set in 95 we're not told what the year is in the film" but by the music, the clothes and hair styles these teens are clearly living in the mid 80's. Everything in the movie was clearly supposed to be set in 1986 even though going by the films timeline it should be close to 1996.

Thats what i love about these high school girls, i get older they stay the same age.

I like to think of "Jason Lives" as being in some kind of goofy alternate universe. http://youtu.be/gkNeQdLg6Nc

Yes, technically this is all true and the timeline has crossed my mind.

That said, even though "style" and music of the movie are concurrent with the 80s, it could also be argued that, back when the movie was made, it would have been impossible to predict what the style and music of 1995 would be. Of course, now it's hindsight 20/20 and easy to recognize that style does not align with what actually happened in the mid 90s. Back in 1986 no one would have been able to say "no, no, no. This style is all wrong for the 90s!"

I'm pretty sure in part 5 they said that Tommy was 12 years old during the events of part 4 (the part where Pam and the other guy are reading Tommy's file in the office). So if Tommy is 17 in part 5 then part 5 took place in 1990.

I would say that Tommy is only supposed to be a few more years older by part 6, like 20 or 21. So 1993 or 1994.

But yeah there was no way of the film makers to know what the popular fashions and music styles of the early-to-mid 90s would be like.

I kinda like to pretend that Friday 1 took place earlier by a few years. Instead of 1980 I like to think 1977. There's not much in the film that puts it far removed from the very late 90s. Part 2-4 would be set in 82, part 5 in 87, and then 6 in 90/91.

I could have sworn that in one movie, part 4 maybe(?), the kids driving pulled over next to the grave of Pam Vorhees and the grave said she died in 1979. So that takes one year away, at least.

You are correct. It's an admitted goof on the part of the filmmakers but it would subtract a year from "Present Day," which was 1980 at the time of the release of "Friday the 13th."

It's not a sci-fi franchise where the characters are in the future, where they all have to dress in clothes, drive cars and play music that hasn't been invented yet. I mean what are you expecting? Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and pretty much every horror sequel is set in the current time of which it was made. They don't change the set so that it is futuristic just to be consistent with a story time line.

1 is 1979 (according to the gravestone in part 4)

2,3,4 are 1984 (5 Yeas later, Feldman was 12)

Nothings really explicitly said after those films.

5 could be 1987 - 1990 (Depending on what age you decide Jarvis is)

6 could be 1988 - 1992 (Same reason all teens are played by older actors)

7 " 1989 - 1993 (I don't buy that crap the opening of the film is after 6 but that its a flashback which makes more sense)

8 " 1989 - 1994 (Don't know why it can't be later the same year)

reply

The beginning of 7 is approximately 10 years after the end of 6.
