I think Part 6 and 7 are pretty good
Part 6 had the fun, campy atmosphere, and the actor who played Jason was pretty good. Part 7 was definitely darker, and Kane Hodder as Jason was a great breath of life in the series.

sharePart 6 is interesting because it predates Scream by 10 years but still has the self-referential humor and dark comedy that film is famous for. Personally it's a bit too MTV-ish for my taste. I always say that part 6 is the Friday film you'd show someone who isn't a Friday fan and thinks they're just monotonous slashers.
Part 7, on the other hand, I consider the best sequel and a near slasher masterpiece. Not even kidding. Hodder was formidable as Jason, the score was darker and more atmospheric, it had a good story with Tina and Dr. Cruz, it was directed well...if only the MPAA hadn't cut the film to ribbons, I think most fans would easily consider it one of the best sequels. If they found a way to reinsert that gore, it would be one of the best slashers of the 80s. As-is, it's still my favorite sequel.
One of the few gripes i have with 7 is all the teen characters. They were god awful. 6 is my favorite for a few reasons but one of them being the connect you felt with the cast, none of them deserved to die they were just good kids hanging out. Part 7 you wished for pretty much all of them to die. CJ Graham was a great jason, he was a marine so he was very militaristic. Kane is by far the more popular menacing choice and he was awesome too. But 6 overall had the best Jason movie feeling. 7 was too OTT with the telekinesis, it added an element to the movie that was completely unnecessary.
sharePart 6 has always been my favorite in the franchise with 1,2 and 4. As for part 7 was pretty enjoyable and to be honest part 8 was too, the worst one by far is Jason goes to hell.

I agree with OP. 6 was the first I saw in the franchise though so maybe that influenced my opinion. But taken as a whole, this was the point where the series fully realized what it was and went all in to have some real fun with it. 7 was more of the same and was perhaps the height of it, as the formula of course wore increasingly thin with each subsequent installment. Part 8 had its moments but felt tacky leaving Crystal Lake.
I'm really curious to see where this thing will go for whatever's next. The reboot of sorts was interesting because it realized that a more aggressive, angry Jason can only add to the thrill.
