Strange Movie

I saw this movie when I was a kid.... about ten years ago.... and it scared the s""" out of me.... enough to the point where I never finished it.... and it has stuck out in my mind for all of these years, which is weird. Well, completely out of nowhere I caught the end of it on Cinemax tonight.... right from the part where I stopped watching, too.

Of course, I didn't find the movie disturbing anymore... but I will admit that it is a pretty bizarre movie... I guess I should have finished it all those years ago, since the kids ended up getting the baddies in the end...

I too saw this movie about ten years ago and it really scared the *beep* out of me then. I was never able to finish it. I understand EXACTLY what you are saying. I expect my experience was probably more traumatic than yours, but regardless, similar situation.

I think it was on Cinemax late Sunday and I picked it up with my DVR. Brought back alot of memories, but I had never finished it ten years ago. Finished watching it and this turned out to be one messed up movie. Not for kids at all.

I had seen this movie when it first came out in 1985 on HBO. Back then, they used to show it several times a week. A few months ago, I had found it on ebay on dvd format and purchased it. I lent it to my sister who also hadn't seen it in 20yrs or so. Her daughter loved the movie soo much, I had to buy myself another copy on ebay!! She told me her daughter would watch it every day, sometimes twice a day. I also had managed to find the book in hardcover format and gave it to my sis as a gift....after I had read it first of course!!

Just curious, is the books name the same as the movie? I'd actually like to read the book.

Is the book good? Does it go into the characters of the kidnappers and their motives for what they've done? The movie doesn't explain this.
