I recently saw Fortress again after seeing it for the first time many years ago.

I was wondering something about the part where the teacher and her students have to swim under water to get out of the cave. Why is it that the teacher swims topless when she goes into the water to see if there is an exit? She's wearing a bra later when she helps each of her students swim under water to the cave exit.

Did she have a bra the first time and just chose not to wear it since only that one student who went with her to search for an exit would see her topless? I was thinking the teacher might have borrowed the bra from her oldest female student Narelle, and the part where she gets the bra from her student didn't make the final edit of the movie. When Narelle has to undress to swim to the exit, she isn't wearing a bra under her shirt.

hmmm. you know what i havent seen this movie in years but i remember that scene like i saw it yesterday. i remember wondering that too. out of the whole movie , that particular scene was what always stuck out in my head. i dont know though. sorry i cant answer your question. and just wondering , did anyone else from the USA ever see this movie? the last time i saw it anywhere was on tv about 15 or so years ago. id like to get it on disc or vhs if the dvd isnt available. but no one i know even heard of this movie. i thought maybe i was making things up in my mind. lol

crzysteph1, if you have multi-channel Cinemax you can watch Fortress again on the 29th of January on the More Max channel. It's worth getting multi-channel Cinemax just to see Fortress again! :D

Until I saw it again a few weeks ago, I had some vague memories from the 80's of seeing a movie about a pretty teacher and her students. Being about the same age as some of the male students back when I first saw it, the idea of having to undress with your teacher was what I remembered about it as well. LOL.

This movie freaked me out so much as a kid that I still remember it...especially the masks the kidnappers wear -- very scary! This movie used to play on HBO over and over again back in the 80's, and I watched it as many times as I could. Never remembered the name, but I remembered that Rachel Ward was the teacher, and found it on IMDB that way. Do we know anything about a DVD release?

I'm watching Fortress right now... when the teacher and her student (Sid) first find the water and she undresses to go find an exit, she IS wearing a bra but removes it before she gets in the water -- even Sid looks at her like it was an unusual thing to do. :-)

I just watched it and searched this site because the description of the movie and the actually movie was different anyway to answer the question the first time she took her bra off the second time as she was going to take it off Narell looked uncomfortable about to take her shirt of so Sally(Rachel Ward) hurrys to start taking the little kids first

adam, did you think you were going to see the sci-fi movie called Fortress? Ha ha! Mixups in movie schedules happen a lot when you have two movies with the same name.

Another thing I noticed when I watched it again today was that one of the students is missing from the swimming scene. You never see the blonde-haired girl who is the 2nd oldest when the class undresses and swims in the cave.

I would also be interested in a copy of Fortress on DVD. I have an old VHS copy that doesn't play that well. I Do have a DVD of Rad. I found someone on EBay that had a bunch of copies of them.

Fortress and Rad wow bring back memories......... Hrm how about the The Zoo Gang, anyone remember that one? Amazing how certain movies can trigger memories of an age and time of your life.

I believe you may all be incorrect. If you look closely and freeze the frame, she is actually still wearing a bra, it's just skin colored and see through.

jayride4 jc, she is topless when she goes with Sid the first time around. Sid is even checking her out. Then when she comes back and gets her cloths Sid is still like staring at her. She then gives Sid this look as if saying, "liked what you saw?" lol. It was the second time with the whole class when she had a bra. She was going to take it off, but when she saw "sweet tits" uncomfortable with nudity she decided to keep it on.

I wonder if young actor Sean Garlick(Sid) saw Rachel Ward topless when she came out of the water in nothing but those tiny wet panties after her first time swimming out of the cave?

I agree. But as another mentioned, there does seem to be a girl missing -- the second-oldest.... ??

The director might have just shot around her since she was possibly of an age to be uncomfortable about being topless, but not old enough to be wearing a bra. Just a guess, but it seems like the most plausible answer.

She could see Narell, who was the only student who actually was fully developed, was shy and embarressed about taking off her shirt. Her and Narell are the only two who have breasts, and she figured everyone would be staring at her.

Yeah, I was wondering this as well. Most logical conclusion I can come with is what you said - she was just more comfortable around just one kid, who was one of the older ones, and later with more kids, including smaller ones around, she decides to just keep the bra on. But all in all it would've made more sense if she had kept it on the first time she dunked herself.
