Was that one of the kidnappers heart in a jar of formeldehyde at the end of the movie? I just don't remember...

reply

Was watching this DVD last night; though i'm not sure about the chemical in the jar (lol), i'm pretty it was heart.

reply

Yes, it would seem to be the kidnapper's heart in a jar.

reply

It was Father Christmas' heart.

Thank you! You just confirmed that this is the movie I've been looking for! I thought it was his brain, but I definitely remember some organ being pickled at the end of the movie.

yea it was definitely a heart. after the camera finishes the zoom/pan onto the jar a "heart-beat" sound effect comes in and leads into the fade out/music of the credits.

Long live the New Flesh!

I was also wondering, what was in that jar? It wasn't very obvious to me that it was the heart, I guess the filmmakers wanted to leave it a bit ambiguous.

reply

You can hear the faint beating of a heart as the camera moves in on the jar. What really kind of gives it away is just before the police arrive and Sally is reading to the children and mention of a trophy is made from the story, one of the girls says, "Hey that's like us, we have a trophy too."

So what I gathered is that Sally and the kids took Father Christmas' heart as their trophy of conquering their enemy.

In the book the movie was based on, it described the children attacking Father Christmas, and they cut out his heart to keep sort of as a souvenir. Also, the police sergeant alluded to that there were injuries on the bodies that could not have been made by animals, but since neither the kids or teacher would tell them what really happened, they just had to go with what they were told.
