What's with the snooty names?

Ferris, Sloane, Cameron? Surprised the movie didn't have a Kendall and a Madison.

It's North suburban Chicago, the area is rife with them.

Done and done. North Chicago suburbs are lousy with richies. You can't go 100 yards without running into another Benz or Porche dealer.
Everyone is Rutherford B. T. Snodgrass III or some such nonsense of a name. They're all 2 paychecks away from bankruptcy so just let them be.
It's still a fun movie.

Surprised the movie didn't have a Kendall and a Madison.

It was too soon for a Madison to be in high school. Or, they were too old to have a Madison in their group (whichever way you prefer to think of it).

Madison didn't really exist as a first name until Splash, and that came out just a couple years before Ferris Bueller.

I can understand the other two but what's wrong with Cameron.

reply

Sloane is English. That would fit with the WASPY area the whole crowd comes from in the film.

I would still question Ferris and Cameron. They aren't English more Scottish and/or Irish based.

reply

I like the name Ferris. Reminds me of the ferris wheel at the fun fair.

reply

Ferris .. Ferr- ar -is. Ferraris.

A fitting name, considering that Camaro is also a sporty car name. Cameron.. Camaro.. I wonder if other people also have car-based names, hmm.

reply

hahah Kendall is an awesome name

reply

My friend named his kid Cameron. I've never met anyone named Ferris or Sloane.

reply

I always got the impression they were rich kids. Look at Ferris' bedroom set up!

I liked the name Sloane.

reply

They were rich kids? You don't say..

News to me.
