a love-story set in a war-torn country wherein a goofy, good-natured, somewhat naive American falls in love with a dour, world-weary, exotic European? Cristina Marsillach is the only reason to watch this one, unless you're a sucker for a love story. Many are, I know.

While I agree with your comment that the movie is basically a love story, there are many unusual elements to the flick such as the family ethics (real strict and odd) the brothers boxing, her cousin's love interest in her, his friend's romance, etc. etc. that make this movie really good. Not to mention such an offbeat role for Hanks. I love to mention to my friends that this is my favorite Hanks movie (and not Castaway, Forrest Gump, Sleepless in Seattle, etc.) - I always get a "what are you talking about?" No one seems to know this movie. I must admit I also really enjoyed Sleepless.

Good choice on Joe vs. Volcano - another underrated TH classic
shareagreed on both--Joe vs. Volcano and Everytime we Say Goodbye, under-rated and generally unknown flashes of Hanks's brilliance. Plus, for romance-lovers, Everytime is probably the most sexually romantic of his movies after Splash. Now that Everytime is out on DVD, maybe it will get more recognition.
