So many ripoffs

Just saw the film. I've noticed plenty of déjà-vu elements.

Escorting witness: Witness (1985)

Hospital seek: Halloween 2 (1981)

Bodyguard, car chasing, gunshots, room scene: The Terminator (1984)

reply

Tough guy cop being browbeaten candy-assed reporter: Any Dirty Harry film.

The massacre of what seems like 100 bad guys in the final battle - Commando

reply

But Commando portrayed the final shoot out scene much more realistic than this one

reply

Considering the rivalry the two of them had back then, I'd put money on it being an influencing factor.

reply

wrong!! commando was rip off of rambo's!!

All movies were borrowing from each other back then, especially action flicks.
Exactly ... and still do. The "body guarding of an important witness" trope goes way, way back well before Witness. Cobra might be accused of many things, but I don't think "ripping off" other films is one of them.🐭

I guess Rambo 2 and The Rock both ripped off Escape from New York, you know getting a guy out of prison so that he can complete a top secret mission that no one else can.

"I really wish Gia and Claire had became Tanner" - Honeybeefine

There were two nods to the Dirty Harry movies, and probably more..

Both Andrew Robinson and Reni Santoni were in the original Dirty Harry movie.

reply

yes this was intentional as cobra was inspire by dirty harry. stallone was big fan of dirty harry. cobra is 80s dity harry.

cobra is homage to dirty harry but not rip offs. it take best things of dirty harry and make them better.

i like dirty harry but it is very slow films. cobra up the ante and stallone make better film.

cobra have similar scene but different story to terminator and halloween 2 and witness. totaly different character and tones!!

non-philistines can always spot film that rip off other. but cobra is not rip off of those film. cobra start off as sly's version of beverly hills cop.

reply

The car chase definetly had elements of The Terminator but you could tell because of how long it was and Stallone having a stylish car that he wanted to try and make a car chase as famous as Bullitt (1968).
