The son is either a great actor or a horrible actor.

Never seen the actor before or after I saw this movie but wow..depending on what the part called for he either played it great or horribly.

Im gonna lean toward horribly.

Keith Gordon, who played the role, had done some other work before. He was in Dressed to Kill the same year Rodney did Caddyshack. Keith has gone on to direct films, such as The Chocolate War and A Midnight Clear.

reply

You mean you never saw him in those classics Christine and Legend of Billie Jean?

reply

He was good in 'Static' as well.

reply

I'm going with 'horrible'; he almost ruins this movie with his whining.

This movie could have been so much better if the son and the girl he was interested in could act. They read their lines like they were bored stoned and having a miserable time. Everyone else, even his secretary typing notes in class, showed more range than those two.

Edie McClurg? She was great in "WKRP" and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." She was also a secretary in "Ferris Bueller." Anyone who messes with Edie has to mess with me first.

My family always called her Mrs. Pool from The Hogan. Family. I loved her in the 80s. She was so cute, adorable and funny and you.couldnt help but love her. I loved.her in Ferris. "he's a righteous.dude."

OMG Edie's eyes when the professor is doing his "he'll never pass this class" scene is priceless and truly great physical acting!!
As for Keith Gordon...an adequate actor, but not great...not bad either. Did the job but didn't stand out (like Emilio Estevez in Breakfast Club...worked but didn't stand out).

reply

Keith Gordon is much better in other movies.

reply

I hope so, because he was pretty bad here; and there's no way...no way, the girl picks him over Chaz. I cringe when he says "I happen to love the guy."

reply

That line always made me cringe, too. He could have said, "I happen to think he's doing pretty well," or, "His chauffeur makes more in a week than you probably will in a year," or hell, just leave it at, "God, I hope so." That would have been fine. "I happen to love the guy" is just over-the-top cheesy.

Aside from that, if they were set on having Keith Gordon play Jason, they should have gone with a shorter girl for the part of Valerie. Seeking a tall leggy thing like her with a little guy like him is just kind of comical. I've seen real-life couples where the woman is taller, but it just doesn't translate well in film.

reply

LOL, nice to know I'm not the only one to groan every time I see that scene.

I'll give Gordon this, he switched from acting to directing. I won't say whether he could ever be known as a top-flight actor, but for someone to gravitate to something they're better at can't be a bad thing.

reply

I've only seen him in this and Christine. He was horrible in both. I wanted him to die in both movies, but Christine was the only one to achieve that feat.

reply

He wasn't too bad in "Dressed to Kill" though. But he does not die, although yet he might become a woman.

I thought Keith Gordon did just fine. Terry Farrell, on the other hand—the actress who played Valerie Desmond—is another story.

I enjoy the movie very much,

My problem though was observing no warmth or chemistry between Keith and Rodney in the film. Not only don't they look related at all, Mr. Dangefield I thought was too old to be playing the father of a teen.

I think he is a great actor. The thing about him though that does NOT work for all the roles he played is that there is just something really dark and creepy about him. Even when he plays a good guy he is dark. I don't know what it is, it's something he just IS, not something he is trying to do.
