Michael Dudikoff just posted a photo on his Facebook showing he and director Sam Firstenberg recording a commentary, and saying a Blu-ray is coming soon.

One of my most wanted Blu-Ray/DVDs, if not the most.
I was so excited about the idea of this coming to blu-ray, I didn't even mention the commentary track. I gave up years ago, because of the way MGM was putting titles like the Cannon library on DVD, on even the remote possibility that we'd get an audio commentary from Dudikoff and Firstenberg. The fact that it's happening is amazing.

Yes! That's what I was waiting to hear. Official announcement and release date. I don't know anything about the company, Kino Lorber, but they have some sweet extras on there. Wish there was also a featurette that just focused on remembering Steve James.
The features have been announced! It's scheduled for 9th December release date!!! I'm so happy about this news! There will also be an intro with director Sam Firstenberg as well as an additional interview with Dudikoff.

Like many, I have been waiting forever to own a good-quality copy of this movie. It's one of my favorite Michael Dudikoff movies! I used to have it recorded on a VHS tape, so, obviously, it never had that great of a picture quality, but it was always better than nothing. I still can't believe they never released it on DVD here in the States. I have always kept an eye out for it, hoping to see a DVD of it on a shelf somewhere, but never have. So, when I read about it coming to Blu-ray a couple of days ago, I got so excited! I cannot wait to finally own this movie (and with commentary, no less...awesome)!

I have the Blu-Ray and it's awesome. My biggest concern was the picture quality. How's the transfer going to be? Will it look that good.? Thankfully, it looks great. Dudikoff in his prime, looking the coolest he's ever looked. Outside of Joe Armstrong, Matt Hunter is the coolest character he ever played. The late, great Steve James is awesome, as always. John P. Ryan is outstanding. What an underrated villain performance. The guy's on fire. And James Booth, always good in these movies. And he wrote this. Along with American Ninja 2, 4, and Pray for Death. But this screenplay is far better than his others.
Kino did a great job, and they just announced that "River of Death" is coming out on Blu-Ray in May. Woohoo!
Did they ever make a regular DVD for North America?

It had never received a DVD release in North America, but when Kino Lorber put out their Blu-ray in 2014, they did release a DVD version of it. :)
