Australian tough guy/survivalist Mick "Crocodile" Dundee charmed filmgoers with his hilarious fish-out-of-water adventures in the extremely popular 1986 comedy "Crocodile" Dundee, starring and written by actor, comedian, and commercial pitchman Paul Hogan, who won a Golden Globe for the role and earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the screenplay. The movie earned $328 million worldwide and 1988's Crocodile Dundee II brought in another $239 million, making Hogan one of the biggest stars of the '80s. (He even hosted the Oscars in 1987.) But he never quite made a name for himself internationally outside of playing Mick. Here's what he's been up to for the past 25-odd years.

I think the 1988 sequel was a huge bomb. It was such a fad film and Hogan was not a versatile actor so unfortunately his star was hitched to the fleeting tastes of fickle filmgoers.

Just saw there was 2001 sequel as well. Never knew about that one.

There were rumblings just last week about a 4th one!

To be honest, none of the films rate well on IMDB. Granted it's more than three decades since the first two films so...

As it was said in another thread, Australiamania was a fad. It died and the film series died with it but not before outliving its welcome. And, yes, there is a fourth on the way. It's currently listed as "filming." God help us all.

How exactly was the sequel a bomb? It was the sixth highest grossing movie (in North America) in 1988.

I wonder of Paul Hogan didn't have a lengthier film career because he got such a decidedly late start. He was already in his mid-to-late 40s when he broke through in America with Crocodile Dundee. He also struck me as one of those actors who felt more comfortable controlling his own projects (think of somebody like Warren Beatty for example) instead if essentially being an actor for hire.

a fourth? is that for real? that would be extraordinary, who doesn't like sequels (except movie critics), but there seem to be a wide opinion that the second movie is a let down after the first one, i never think of it that way cause i grew up with both confusing them together not sure which scene occurs in which movie as they constantly air after each other, but since i keep coming across this opinion i pick up on how different they actually are, how the first is almost entirely jolly and fun while the second is much more violent (it freaking opens with a guy getting executed) and not as an enjoyable watch, since that second gets such a poor reception, not only from movie critics but also the public, as people i watch it with, and even a comment made about it on "family guy", it's pretty remarkable there was a third movie made after a huge time gap from the first two movies, what adds to the weirdness of the third movie is an actor playing a villain in the second movie returns playing the role of dundee's friend in one of the major roles, he's in one of the greatest parts of the second movie though when the little guy is sitting down on the ground telling him he doesn't need gun because he's got a donk, and the bad guy laughs at him and asks - "a what?" - "donk" 🀜. also my experience is that the third one never airs along the first two. funny how the critics gives the second and third movie the same rating, i'm not as familiar with the third movie as it airs much more seldom.

you cut off your love,
i had nowhere to turn,
was driftin astray,
you arrived with fair waves,
to home me sailed,
under moonlight,
navigate in your sunshine,
i fell prey to your charm,
as you locked in my heart.

Asides from Croc Dundee every other film he did was a flop. He was successful as a comedic actor in Australia before Croc anyway.
