what now?

The trivia says that Valerie was killed off. I've never seen the show and am wondering how they killed her off.

I heard on the show that Valerie was killed in a car crash. Valerie Harper was fired from the show, and replaced by Sandy Duncan as Mike's younger sister, Sandy. Do you think something similar might happen on "8 Simple Rules?"

reply

She was killed in a house fire cause by one of the kids. It had to do with a battle outside of the show between valerie and Lorimar, who fired her. Thats why she was killed on the show.

Unlike in this show... the character on 8 simple rules was killed because the actor died... and in valerie it was because she was fired.

This show worked fine without valerie. So far so good with the loss of John, but he was such a huge part of the concept that I hope the show does well without him. See the other show even changed names because it made no sense otherwise. 8 simple rules ..... stayed the same even though the reason why it was called 8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter was because of John Ritters character.

There was a house fire on "Valerie," but that was during the transitional period when it was called, "Valerie's Family," after Sandy Duncan joined the show. Valerie was not killed in the fire; she had already died. Her death wasn't a huge focus of the show; it was hardly ever mentioned. After audiences had time to become familiar with Sandy Duncan's character and could identify the show as having nothing to do with Valerie, the name of the show was changed from "Valerie's Family" to "The Hogan Family."

Valerie was supposed to have died? I thought she had been fed up with Michael Hogan and left him.

reply

Wrong, she was not killed in a house fire. It was described that she had
a car accident

Yes, she died in a car accident, not a house fire. I remember seeing that particular episode quite vividly when it came out. I'm almost positive that it was mentioned in the very first episode after the "Valerie" season.

reply

Yeah, it was a car accident. The house fire was in the next season, and while they're at the Poole's, one of the kids (David?) says something like, "ever since mom died." So, she died before the fire.

I remember watching the show and they did refer to Valerie as dying on the show or I should say her character dies. It has been so long since I have seen the show that I have forgotten how she died because no one picked up this show and place into syndication like Full House, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Saved By The Bell, and The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air! See that is something I do not understand the clutter TV with shows and they forget other shows. Right now they are airing Growing Pains on Nick@Nite and the other great 80's show that they have shown as well is Who's The Boss. Why not show Valerie and Hogan Family as well on there? I would love to see this show on again!

SHE DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. THE FIRST EPISODE WITH SANDY DUNCAN ONLY REFERS TO VALERIE DYING IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHICH EXPLAINS SANDY MOVING IN WITH THE FAMILY. THIS IS ALSO MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW. I UNDERSTAND ABC FAMILY BOUGHT THE RIGHTS TO IT LAST YEAR SO QUITE OFTEN I GO TO WWW.ABCFAMILY.COM AND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE CLICK FEEDBACK AND START SENDING THEM EMAILS ABOUT AIRING IT AND GETTING IT OUT ON DVD. MAYBE IF ENOUGH OF US DO THAT THEY WILL TAKE SOME ACTION!!

I did put my request in at ABC Family about putting Valerie and Hogan Family back on again but never heard anything back from them. Possibly if a lot of people were to post their response about getting the show back on then possibly ABC Family will do that. I would love to see this great show on again along with Mr. Belvedere as well and maybe even Webster! That would be just be totally awesome!
