I do not understand why this show is not in syndication like other shows! It is so frustrating because I have seen shows stay on for several years and once they remove it then maybe some stations will show them but I do not live in that city or state that they show these shows like Punky Brewster, Mr. Belvedere, Silver Spoons, and many other great shows from the 80's. I do not hardly see either in syndication Webster and I always remembered watching that show!
I haven't seen Punky Brewster, Mr.Belvedere or Hogan Family in years. Silver Spoons was running some time on Nick at Night, especially during the 80s fad of the early 2000s in which Nick at Night was showing Diff'rent Strokes, Kate & Allie, Perfect Strangers, Three's Company, Facts of Life, Alf, Square Pegs, Benson, Who's The Boss and Silver Spoons. I think they still show Who's The Boss and The Cosby Show. I get tired of seeing all those shows from the 90s over and over again. You can only see so much of Family Matters, Step By Step and Boy Meets World. Full House(partial 80s-90s) is also shown a LOT, and it's been in syndication since it ended. Some of the shows, particularly Boy Meets World, is played on more than one channel(Disney owned channels like ABC Family and Disney Channel). Some of the other shows need a little love, y'know?
Yes I definately agree with you on what you have said! It has been ages since I have seen some of those shows and wonder why do they not show them at all for? What I do not comprehend is that Who's The Boss and Growing Pains were all shown at the same time of Mr. Belvedere and I have not seen Mr. Belvedere since it went off the air in 1992 because at that time I was living in Decatur, Illinois and the local programming did not show Mr. Belvedere in public syndication at all like Who's The Boss and Growing Pains. I am sick of seeing Full House, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, and any other show you can think of. I do not mind Step By Step or Boy Meets World because they are great shows. Perfect Strangers is another show that I have not seen in ages and some of the shows that you listed. I mean I would love to see some 80's marathon show possibly for a whole month on Nick@Nite. I would love that and watch it you know.
I got soooo sick of Boy Meets World after it ran on Disney channel of, like, YEARS and YEARS. And they played it around 5 times per-day(early noon back-to-back, late noon back-to-back, and around midnight). Disney Channel saturates their shows to hell. They are doing the same with Phil of the Future, Hannah Montana, That's So Raven and Life With Derek(among others).
Nick At Night had a few of the old series on, but only for a brief while. I'm hoping they get back into the mood of 80s. During that fad, back in the early 2000s, everybody was getting into the 80s. VH1 started the whole "I Love the 80s" series, and more love was being sparked, not only from us old timers, but from the younger generation who got interested in everything 80s. Though it seems the fad is dying, sadly.
And yes, Rosanne gets boring after a while. Not to mention that, but you can only see so much episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
I agree with you that Nick@Nite shows way too much of shows from the 90's I hate to say it! I remember in 1988 when Nickolodean came onto cable where I grew up at which is Decatur, Illinois and now I live in Wisconsin. They use to show the classic shows and somewhat have gotten away from it. There are shows from the 80's that I have not seen in like forever! I would love to see some of the 80's shows come back. If you go to Growing Pains and read what I have put into a thread of Best 80's shows you will find a long list of shows that I have not seen in like forever so it would help out for you to add or anyone else to add some shows for possibly Nick@Nite or some stations to do.
About 6 or 7 years ago Punky Brewster was on ABC Family along with some other classic shows from the 80's and last year Valerie was shown along with Hogan Family on ABC Family. From what I understand there is talk of them bringing it back sometime this August or September. I would be very happy to see it when it comes back on. I think ION use to have it on but do not quote me on that though. I just thought that I would let you know about that.
I think its a conspiracy to dumb us all down (just joking).
It's funny how these shows with moral lessons....silver spoons, punky brewster, hogan family, etc are all off the air (or difficult to find). But it's not difficult to find reality trash! It's a shame silver spoons only has 1 season on dvd. And only 1 season on the internet (hulu).
I also miss hey dude, muppet babies, amazing stories (when was the last time that was on tv?). The Wizard.
I know what you mean about that because it took forever for Mr. Belvedere to finally come out on DVD box set. They released back in 2008 I believe it was or March of 2009 the first and second season of the show. Due to the third season not selling so well SHOUT decided to only sell the fourth season on their website.
All of the good shows with moral values they do not want to show in reruns for some reason I do not know why though. I hate some of these shows like Crime and Order or the reality shows as well. They show them in reruns but forget about these others that I grew up with or you did as well.
Amazing Stories use to be shown on the original SCIFI Channel but when NBC got the rights to the network they altered the name to SYFY Channel. They stopped showing some of the shows that I grew up with in reruns.
It's amazing how they keep cutting the decent shows. I would even call A team decent. It taught team work, friendship, camaraderie, believing in ones self, fighting for whats right, etc. You don't see the line between right vs wrong on tv anymore. Horrible.
I wish silver spoons season 2 to 5 would come out on dvd. There was a great christmas episode in that series about helping the homeless/less fortunate...you dont see that on tv anymore. I think with a show like that, it's going to take forever to come out on dvd, if ever.
It took a long time for family matters to make it to dvd. Maybe there's hope. Airwolf? Another one I havent seen on tv in ages. The original hour long NBC Unsolved Mysteries would be nice too.
Yes it is amazing on how they continue to cut out decent shows to watch on TV. Yes the A-TEAM was a very good show to watch like you said. No you do not see the bad guys against the good guys any longer. Yes it is horrible all right!
Well the only way that Silver Spoons would have those seasons come out is if a lot of fans asked for it to happen and people bought the DVD's as well! No the last time I saw Silver Spoons on TV was when Nick@Nite when totally flashback of the 80's about 10 or 11 years ago.
No Family Matters was out on DVD because I saw it out as early I believe in the early 200's to be honest with you about it. Airwolf is out already on DVD but not the complete seasons though. The last time I saw Airwolf on was about 5 years ago on the old SCIFI Channel. Yes the original Unsolved Mysteries would be nice to watch I think as well!
Hey dude. On the itunes store, but not dvd. Wild n Crazy kids. Mr Wizards World, about 1/2 of them are on dvd. I think there were 5 seasons of clarissa explains it all. One is on dvd.
Muppet babies on dvd would be great, but I dont think it'll ever happen (too many stock clips).
A station here in australia (7two) has just started airing Valerie/Hogan Family from S1. I missed most of s1 but will record all the rest. Needless to say I'm extremely happy about this as I have fond memories of this show and it's virtually impossible to find.
You are lucky that a station out of Australia is showing Valerie/Valerie's Family/ and then the final name was The Hogan Family. The last time that this show aired in reruns was about 5 or 6 years ago. A TV station called ABC Family was experimenting or trying to fill time slots at like 6:00 in the morning. I noticed that they would show Valerie or The Dukes Of Hazzard that I grew up watching when I was a kid. Valerie sort of came in my teenage years because I grew up watching Jason Bateman in Silver Spoons and then another show with the guy who played Steve the neighbor from Married With Children. I was excited to see a network finally show Valerie because I loved watching that show when it was on.
Then when NBC like ABC has a really popular show on and it has been running for quite sometime they always will give it to CBS because CBS cannot seem to create shows like NBC and ABC can. The Hogan Family went from NBC to CBS and that is when I lost track of when the show was on. I did not realize that The Hogan Family went to CBS until it was too late because I was the kind of person that when I had a show on a certain station that I liked to watch I did not switch over to watch another show. The only other time that I have seen Valerie/ Valerie's Family and then finally it became known as The Hogan Family was when a TV station known as PAX was airing it in the late 90's or early 2000's. After that I did not see it again on TV until ABC Family showed it early in the morning during the week.
I saw recently about a couple of weeks ago on a episode of Swamp Thing the actor who played Mark who was the smartest one of the fraternal twins in Valerie. I was like, "I know him and remember him! He played Mark in Valerie!" He was going with the hair style of the early 90's which was the mullet. LOL I noticed that Mark went from the preppy look to the mullet toward the end of The Hogan Family. The mullet was a popular hair style to have in the late 80's and early 90's. Such great memories and I would love to add this TV show to my collection. I wished that Achor Bay or SHOUT can come up with some sort of deal with Valerie to get her to release the first season or two with her in it. She is the reason why the show has not been released in a DVD box set yet. I do not mean to be negative but the only way that we will ever see this show is if Valerie Harper passes away and then the family members decide to release the show which would be nice to see on DVD box set.
Actually with all our new digital stations here in oz we have been getting a ton of classic tv shows. Valerie is followed on 7two by Perfect Strangers and Growing Pains. Valerie though has been the most welcome considering how hard it is to come by.
That is cool that your new digital stations there in Australia are showing some classic TV shows. They use to show on ION a few years ago Perfect Strangers and then all of a sudden they quit showing it. I do not know why though. Then Growing Pains has not been shown in reruns here since Nick@Nite stopped airing them about 4 years ago I believe it was. You guys are lucky that they air those shows on TV.
Here all they like to show are the same darn shows over and over again like Fully House, Home Improvement, or anything like that. These are shows that started in the late 80's and ran until the late 90's and todays youths like those shows. I do not know why though. I wished that they would show some things from the late 70's on through until the late 80's. I would be happy about that.
Well I'm extremely annoyed that the hogan family is not on anymore replaced by the friggin ghost whisperer!!! Perfect Strangers remains and I suppose I at least recorded 42 eps of the hogan family most of them seasons 2 & 3 and a couple from 4. Still would have liked the entire series. I'm hoping they may reinstate it somewhere else in the schedule.
I am sorry to hear that they are no longer showing Hogan Family any longer where you live at and instead replacing it with Ghost Whisperer. That show sucks! They are showing it pretty much in a lot of networks here in reruns for some reason. The big thing right now which I hope this will eventually fade is crime and drama shows like CSI, Law and Order, or any other crime and drama show. Well at least you got to see a majority of the shows. The last time I saw Valerie on was when ABC Family was airing it in reruns about 5 or 6 years ago. I was really excited about it and then it was yanked off for something else instead.
See if it does not have the ratings that the stations want then they will yank it and put it back on the shelf to collect dust once again. Valerie/Valerie's Family/The Hogans/and then became The Hogan Family should be airing on Nick@Nite or TV Land by now. Instead those shows are airing in reruls Full House, Home Improvement, George Lopez Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, or any one of those shows from the 90's. I do not know why, but I am sick of those shows in reruns!
Home Improvement & Raymond are great shows but they are always being shown/are on DVD and easily downloadable all things that don't apply to The Hogan Family. The last time it was on here in Australia was in it's orginal run which was why I was so excited when it came back. And yes ratings do count but it's on in the afternoon on a minor ch not the main one so you wouldn't think ratings would factor into it but that would be the only reason for axing it. I can't imagine The Ghost Whisperer will fare much better.
Home Improvement was great in its original run, but when every freakin network started to show it in reruns I became sick of watching it. Everybody Loves Raymond I never got into because I was watching something else though. Like you said it can be downloaded from online here or the DVD box set can be bought to be watched as much as people want to watch them. Well that is why I was shocked to see Valerie on when it was about 5 or 6 years ago because the last time that I saw Valerie or the Hogans shown on TV was back 10 or 11 years ago. See if a show is popular and a lot of people enjoy watching it then ratings has to factor in as to why it is shown. There has been shows that had huge ratings when it was shown on TV, but when some of these networks have brought them back on it is only for a short while though. Then they put on something else that has been shown ever since it was canceled or went off the air.
Is there any reason why it isn't on DVD? I mean it was a successful show running for six seasons I think so it's baffling why it isn't when shows that ran for one season are often on DVD. And Jason Bateman is a big star these days as well.
Well I was wondering why Mr. Belvedere was not out on DVD because it was a popular show as well when it came out in 1985. Yes Growing Pains and Who's The Boss came out before Mr. Belvedere did. I loved watching Mr. Belvedere and I kept going to the board there asking the same question. Just 2 years ago they finally released Mr. Belvedere out on DVD box set of season 1&2 together. Then they came out with season 3 which I guess did not do so well in selling because season 4 is out, but you have to buy it from SHOUT who was able to get it to come out on DVD box set. From what I heard and understand from the board here is that Valerie does not want to release it for the public to get it on DVD box set. I do not know why she does not want to release it out on a DVD box set because people like yourself and I who are fans of the show would love to see it. The way it looks no network wants to show it on TV in reruns for some reason that I cannot explain because it is a great show to watch. Yes I agree with you that it was a successful show running for 6 seasons all right. Also you have to remember is NBC started out with the show and then for some reason I cannot explain because CBS has the tendency of doing this with ABC as well. They will pick up shows and I can list examples of them like The Hogans, Step By Step, Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, and along with Unsolved Mystery which was not a family sitcom at all. CBS bought them out and when they did that they altered the name of the show or concepts of the show to make it different. By CBS changing these small little things it caused the ratings to go down. A part of the problem I think is that with CBS placing these shows on a different time slot also caused the ratings to drop considerably. What I mean by that is if CBS places it on a Tuesday night at 7:00 to 7:30 well if you like another show that is running at the same time on a different network then it is going to create problems for you because you really want to watch The Hogans, but you want to watch this other show instead.
Yes it is baffling to me as well that shows that had a nice 3 to 5, or more year run do not get picked up to be shown in reruns and other shows that ran at the same time does. Yes Jason Bateman has done something to get a new spark on his career to where he no longer just does TV shows, but films now. I remember when he did Little House On The Prairie, Silver Spoons, I believe it was called Just In Time, and then did Valerie which changed its name more than once were all TV shows. He did not do a film until like the sequel to Teen Wolf Too. It was ok, but not really the best in my opinion.
I know exactly what you mean about there is a lot of 80's shows missing from TV now and they should be shown in reruns to be honest with you.
Yes Different Strokes was popular and I do remember when Nick@Nite about 10 or 11 years ago use to show it on their channel in reruns. Plus, I remember when the show was running back during the 80's it was being shown in reruns on certain networks back in the day.
Well Airwolf was on CBS originally and then USA Network picked it up and placed it into syndication. After it ran on there for a few years they stopped having it in reruns. The very next time that I saw Airwolf on once again was when the old SCIFI Channel ran it in reruns. See I loved watching SCIFI Channel before NBC took over and then changed the name of it a few years ago from SCIFI Channel to SYFY Channel which did not make any sense to me at all. That to me symbolized that after NBC took over the channel they wanted to create it and change it into its own channel. Yes it did have a huge cult following all right. Yes it did have a great intro.
Now back 10 years ago Silver Spoons was shown on Nick@Nite with other classic 80's shows. I think Nick@Nite was running something like a 80's rewind back then. See and then like several years later they started to show TV shows that were on during the late 80's, but it seemed as if they totally forgot TV shows that were on from 1980 through up until the early 90's. Silver Spoons was shown in reruns about 20 years ago on station out of St. Louis, Mo.. The problem is that these TV shows that we love to watch might be airing or shown on a local network that possibly only for example, that is shown in a small town or if it is a larger city they are going to have a lot more local stations that is not nation wide.
I do remember back when Muppet Babies were shown on Nick@Nite, but this was back in I believe the late 80's or early 90's I believe.
ALF was on PAX TV which I believe changed into and became The Hallmark Channel. They use to show ALF 20 years ago along with Doogie Houwser M.D..
The last time I saw Punky Brewster on TV was back when ABC Family Channel was just known as The Family Channel which later became FOX Family Channel for a few short years, and finally ABC I guess got a contract agreement with The Family Channel. They showed Punky Brewster about 10 years ago on The Family Channel.
About 5 or 6 years ago when I was working third shift and happened to be on my days off from work and noticed on the TV Guide on TV to see what is on in a few hours or flipping channels I found out that ABC Family Channel had Valerie and the rest of the name changes to where it was finally known as The Hogan Family. I was really stoked and excited about it. They had it on at like 6:00 in the morning until 7:00 in the morning. Right now that is in that time frame is Boy Meets World. I was watching everyday pretty much ABC Family Channel because they were experimenting with TV shows that I remember growing up watching as a kid with including The Dukes Of Hazzard.
A lot of it has to do with if it is going to pull the ratings or not. I can remember when ION was known about 10 or 11 years ago as another channel under a different name. They use to show Valerie and all of the other names that it went through being called while the TV show was on. Plus, they were showing a lot of other shows including Dave I believe it was called. That was the actor who played Harry Stone in Night Court.
I am still waiting to see Mr. Belvedere which is one of my favorite TV shows that I remember watching as a kid when Growing Pains was on and Who's The Boss. All of these shows came on around the same time together. I have seen Growing Pains in reruns and Who's The Boss as well, but no one cares about a lot of these shows that had ratings when we were growing up during the 80's.
I some what feel a lot of the children that were born in the mid 80's to now is missing out on great programming that we grew up watching. I loved Nick@Nite when I was a teenager because I got to see shows from the 50's on up until like the 70's. I figured that during the 90's and even possibly now we would be hitting on shows from the late 70's on up to like the late 80's early 90's. The problem is that Nick@Nite went through a transformation like AMC did as well.
I use to love watching AMC 20 years ago, but when the late 90's came they started to dump off the kind of programming that they were famously known for to go with the more modern or current films that are brand new and not really classics to me. I feel in order for it to be a classic it has to at least be between 10 or more years old. AMC also started to have commercials shown during their movies which I loved no commercial interruptions at all! See a lot of AMC moves is to attract the demographic age of what ever it is up until like 34 years old. Once you go beyond the 35 you are considered I believe in the 35 to like 80 year old demographics which no one cars about to be honest with you. That is why someone with some money needs to create a all 80's TV channel so we can watch the shows that we have discussed about to be able to watch!
Update: For some unknown reason the ghost whisperer has vanished and the hogan family has been reinstated. I didn't realise until I turned on the tv today to record perfect strangers and caught the end of it. So I missed one ep but happy to be able to record the rest of the series now.
Well that is good to hear that they brought back Hogan Family. I guess it was more higher in ratings than Ghost Whisper. That is what usually happens is if one show has more ratings than the other they will get rid of it and put the show that has higher ratings to make the fans happy about it.
Macgyver was on the Sleuth channel last year, but they took it off. Ateam has been on Centric for a few years, and is still on as far as I know. I saw it a couple months ago.
Anything I could have said I felt somehow that you already knew
I'm glad "Step By Step" is back on television. I haven't seen that show on tv in ages. It's always the same shows over and over again. I wouldn't mind seeing THF on television again. Along with "Mama's Family." Like SBS I cannot remember any episodes because it's been so long.
Well Mama's Family was shown on ION about 5 or 6 years ago before they switched over to showing crime and drama shows. Yes it is good to see Step By Step on once again. ABC Family use to show Step By Step about 4 or 5 years ago and then got rid of it to show reruns of shows that are newer or recently made.
I didn't know that about MF. I want "Mama's Family" back on. I was so happy when I found out TV One was airing GAB because I never watched that show before, but TV One stopped airing it after only a few months. I also would not mind seeing a Saturday morning sitcom that aired on NBC back in day called "California Dreams."
Yeah it would be great if a lot of these shows were shown again. I live in the United States so certain shows will be shown a lot while others will vanish and we forget about them. I hate to say it but it is true though.
