Not me, I was a teenager when it first aired and loved it. I was soooo surprised to find the first season released on DVD and purchased it without hesitation.
The new fan: My 10 year old son. We've had the DVDs for a month and he hasn't watched the entire season because he keeps watching the first 2 discs over and over... I can't way to see his reaction to the ending of the season!
I own Police Squad, too, but I haven't watched it all. There are certainly similarities because they're both parodies of cop shows.
Police Squad had a gag in which the cop and robbers were in a shoot out. The camera alternated between the characters until, finally, the camera backed up to reveal that the cops and robbers were only about 5 feet apart.
A similar shootout occured in Sledge.
I recognized that the gag was stolen from Police Squad, however, it didn't bother me.
What I'm more interested to know... One of the Sledge episodes was very Hitchcockian: A plane tries to mow Sledge down in the beginning, A Hitchcock looking character walks by and says "Good evening", The episode deals with espionage and is resolved on a train (which I'm pretty sure is a Hitchcock plot).
A few other events occured in the episode that didn't make sense for the story, so I assumed they're references to Hitchcock. Anybody?
Sledge also shared at least a couple of the same writers from Police Squad, Tino Insana and Robert Wuhl, maybe others I'm not sure. So that may help explain why the two shows share a lot of the same sense of humor and (possibly? I don't remember any) even repeated jokes...
