For some reason, the show "Monk" reminds me of this. The humor is far different, but they feel very similar. Perhaps the quirky male lead, the objective female partner and the frustrated captain, plus the mini-mystery format. Wonder if the Monk producers were inspired by this show...

I didn't notice the resemblance between the shows, but the producers of "Monk" may have been making a tribute to "Sledge Hammer!" by casting David Rasche in a guest role in one episode.
