Inspiration from Fosdick?

We know of course, Sledge is a parody of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer. But when I first saw an episode of Sledge, he immediately reminded me of Al Capp's Fearless Fosdick who was a parody of Gould's Dick Tracy. This is intricately cool - a TV series character who is a parody of a comic character parodying another comic character.

Thanks for your interesting point of view. But I must remind you that Hammer was not an Inspector. He was a P.I. Fosdick was a detective in a comic strip within a comic strip and he was Li'l Abner's favorite.

I was referring to Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer who the creator of Sledge Hammer was obviously satirizing.

The creator (Alan Spencer) has stated (as previously mentioned) Sledge is a parody of Dirty Harry mixed with the "stupidity" of Max Smart.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
