In the scene where they are eating hot dogs and Rachel is telling Book all the things his sister told her, she says, your sister says when you get drunk you say things like "they wouldn't know a crook from a bag of elbows." It's always cracked me up because by his reaction that's obviously not what he actually says, but I have always wondered what it was supposed to be? I can't for the life of me think of what expression she's misquoting. Any ideas?
shareWell, I don't know either, but there is an expression, "dumb as a bag of hammers," and another expression, to characterize a stupid person, "he wouldn't know his a** from his elbow," so it seemed to me -- pure speculation -- that Rachel might have heard Book's sister use these phrases, or similar ones, but they were both new to her and she kind of conflated them in the retelling.
share'He wouldn't know his a** from his elbow" is the first thing I thought of, too. Maybe you're right though, and it's a combination of expressions she wouldn't have know. That makes sense that she would mix them. I thought there was an expression I was missing. lol Plus, I love the look on his face.
