The murder scene scared the crap out me as a kid

I was 10 when I first saw this movie and the murder scene in the bathroom scared the living bajeezus out of me. Now when I view the scene it's actually very tame and the "blood" looks pretty poor compared to most movies. Still, it ended up being one of my favorite movies. As a kid I watched practically every Harrison Ford movie because he was my mother's favorite actor.

Thanks mom.

According to IMDB Trivia: "When shooting the murder in the men's room scene, Peter Weir claimed it was the most violent scene he'd ever filmed. Even today, he still thinks it was perhaps too violent. But he wanted to have an outrage over the violence that occurred before the eyes of an innocent Amish boy."

Same here! I don't know if it's the guy really trying to fight back, or Danny Glover's cold resolve, but it was uber brutal and got me quite alert while in public restrooms ever since!

He was also my mom's favorite. She ran once into him on a dance club in Mexico. She approached him with an improvised speech ready in her head, but only managed to grab his hand and mumble "You're gorgeous" before running away like an embarassed teen -she was like 50-. At least she got his trademark half-smile. Lucky girl.

Simply because the murdered men don't quietly lay down and die but as in real life, he convulses and tremors violently in the most terrible way. It is truthful and quite nightmarish.

Less is more. This scene is so brilliantly edited what you *don't* see, but hear, is what makes it so gut-wrenching. Very difficult to watch, totally realistic.
