*spoilers* Need help... Remake?

I am pretty damn sure that Witness 1985 starring Harrison Ford is a remake of a film I saw on TV once.
It was shot in either the late fifties or early sixties, was black and white.
It differs due to there not being any Amish, but instead just a large farming family.
But specifically the scene where the three gents turn up, get out of their car, retrieve shotguns and head slowly down the hill is an almost direct pinch. Although in this "original" movie the scene was much better with a great deal of morning mist and high pan shot which just stretches on and on watching the men all the way down the hill.
Have I just gone mad and dreamed this film or does it exists?
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

did you ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?

Ask your question on the I Need to Know board here. Lots of old movie buffs there. Mention in your post that you have already asked the question on the Witness board but haven't gotten an answer. Good luck.

There's a more recent thread that suggests Witness was based on Angel and the Bad Man. The thread is called "Witness offers no reference to a possible inspiration."

The trivia mentions the story was originally written for a Gunsmoke tv episode but never got made. So the writers made it into this film. I just found that interesting.
