Did Malfeitor kill them? Because David made the comment that they both died on the same day? Also if he did does that mean that Malfeitor was listening to David & Brandon when they thought they were alone?

I wondered about this too, doesn't make too much sense when you think about it. Great movie though.
shareNo because linda and her husband had just moved in to that place not to long ago Brandon and David had been talking for longtime before that. Malfetor lived in that house back in the 30s. Also No Mal did not kill David or his parents David Drowned in that lake in the film his parents i think diead later on not the same but no connection to Malfetor
shareI think it's a bit ambiguous. Malfeitor very well might've been covering his tracks, because it is rather odd that both parents would die on the same day less than two weeks before Brandon and Jim's field trip to Big Bear.
Now, why bother?
That I don't know. Maybe if Jim and Brandon had shown up at David's parents' house they might have stumbled onto some new evidence that David couldn't have been responsible for all of the mayhem -- "Here's a picture of David right before the accident...he was always such a gentle boy," etc.
It does seem like a long way for Malfeitor to go to protect his identity, but two weeks before does seem about right time-wise, if we accept that the catalyst was Linda contacting "David" alone for the first time.
