I also thought that the wedding at the ending to be a funeral, especially since the screen faded out when Jim fell out the window. The film's ending made no sense and almost any alternative ending would have been better than this one.
Even if Jim did not die from the fall, how were they to explain the deaths, especially when Brandon was discovered with a hammer wound on his forehead? The homicide detective witnessed the end struggle but what was he to say about Jim stabbing Linda on the leg and then crashing through the window - that Linda was possessed by a demon? If he said, that he would probably be put into the same nuthouse as the couple.
One problem with the "happy ending" was that the characters were so unlikeable that I didn't really want them to survive. Despite all the clear warning signals, Jim stubbornly refused to believe that the Ouija board "worked" and Linda foolishly played with it alone. Whatever happened they brought it on themselves. I hope Brandon survived instead.
