An interesting thing about the Duran Duran music video

The music video for A View to a Kill features the Duran Duran boys on the Eiffel Tower, doing some quasi spy-related stuff, inter-cut with shots from the movie of Bond chasing May Day up the tower.

What's interesting is that when the part featuring May Day diving of the tower is shown, the footage has actually been altered to remove the somewhat obvious goof present in the movie. That being the clearly visible large runway jutting from the top of the tower which the stuntman used to do a running jump from.

Here's a comparison of the two versions:

So this raises the question; if it was easy enough for the Duran Duran music video editor to remove it, why didn't the filmmakers remove it too?

That's cool!

I would imagine because the video was only ever shown on VIDEO! The film would have been distributed worldwide on 35mm film and they couldn't do those tricks on film in 1985.

Just checked the video on you tube. And that was an HD version so not the original 1985 version. We need to view the original. But nice find.

Are you suggesting that at some point Duran Duran's label decided to 'remaster' a music video from 1985, upscale it to HD, and also digitally correct a goof in the 20+ year old movie footage featured in it? Seems pretty unlikely.
Anyway; here's a SD version from Warner Music and it's the same:

well i've seen duran duran's music video of this roll every once in a while on vh1, and it's neat how they mix in footage from the movie, "for your eyes only" have also run a lot on the station, i've got all bond soundtracks from the first 1962 (dr. no) up to 1985 (this) on the 2003 releases with bonus tracks on cd and listen to them regularly, the whole soundtrack to this is great but lacks a bit of diversity i find and it runs sort of similar throughout, i find "on her majesty's secret service" to be the best one, a bit too many horns on the very earliest ones i think, i just saw a documentary on cnn a few days ago about bond where they talked about the original bond theme, i couldn't believe the original composer monty norman was still around, and tonight aired a bit about duran duran on bbc. too bad john barry didn't continue making bond soundtracks after the 1980s, this franchise sure lost a lot of its trademarks after this movie.
