Did you ever write it? Frankly, I am not sure why a sequel would be necessary. I would imagine, that it would involve the mother dying and the son going back to Bountiful on a bus and him meeting Rebecca de Mornay and recognizing her from the bus station and him telling her the story of his mother.
Rebecca is going back to her original town since her husband died. They fall in love and John Heard dumps that cratchety wife of his. The reward is that he finally has children with Rebecca and they name the children after his Geraldine Page's character and what he promised his father he would name his first born son.
Was this your storyline?

What a wonderful storyline, Enrique. Then, of course, there will be The Trip to Bountiful III in which the family--John, Rebecca, Carrie Jr. and little whatshisname--help rebuild Bountiful and allow the soil to return the crops, trees, and those fields of beautiful purple flowers all the while they are singing "Jesus is Calling" over and over and over and over again. The plot thickens when Carrie Jr. falls in love with the little neighbor boy but John forbids it all. Still she mourns in silence and cries within each time his carriage passes her house to and from his farm and the now prosperous village of Bountiful.
oh, well, maybe not.
Well...I do like that, don't knock it! I think it should be a TV series then...hahahaha

Great ideas there as well, watergarden!
It would be great if Carrie Jr. suddenly stood up to her father like John finally did to his horrible wife years before. I can imagine the father's face as he hears...and remembers that!
Then perhaps John will soften, getting lost in memory remembering how it was in his own past.

Yes, we definitely did to have Carrie Jr. break the pattern, act more like a independent, self-assured woman.
shareAwesome sequel ideas, Enrique-8!
