wheres the other side of the disk?

i just bought the trancers dvd and when I click on trailers in the menu page it says to flip the disk.but the other side has the moivie title written on it and there is nothing on this side.why is that?where are the 40 trailers?

reply

There are no 40 trailers. The menu (and the film) on the DVD were copied straight off the laserdisc version, which you could turn over to see the trailers. They didn't bother to make any changes when they released the DVD and as a result the menu screen that you see which says 40 trailers is actually a menu from the laserdisc. Get the Region 2 version off ebay, which actually has some trailers on it!

They must have re-released it sans trailers, because the copy I bought (R1) when it first came out has the 40 trailers on the opposite side, right where they're supposed to be.

I'd trade 'em for a much better quality copy of the film though. The DVD is sourced from a laserdisc which wasn't exactly top-notch to begin with. So we end up with a copy that has film artifacts, laser disc encoding glitches, and a ghosted, grainy image. I know the movie ain't high art, but it deserves better.

I've got this too. The DVD film looks like it was from a video that was recorded from a laserdisc, which was recorded from a bad film reel. Really bad effort for an '80s film. Other than that, the film is very inspiring as usual.

This sounds like a wonderful idea for DVD treatment. They pulled out all the stops for the Re-Animator Millineum Edition DVD, so why can't they do the same for this one, which was one of Empire's best? If they re-release Trancers in a special edition, they'd be wise to include the features that you listed, plus a clean picture transfer (lacked by the Koch edition). I do have one question: How would they manage to do two informative commentaries for a movie that's just over an hour long? I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would have to be somewhat planned beforehand.
