was this originally unrated in theatres?

shareI've never seen a 'Toxie' poster with an R-rating, but it makes sense. Most theater and video chains will not carry a film if it's unrated, so almost every theatrically-released Troma film has two cuts, an R-rated version and an unrated. With 'Toxie', the unrated originally had a small East Coast theatrical run until it became popular enough for a wider release, in which case the R-rating was necessary. So, both versions were screened.
