why does chance draw his gun in the airport bathroom?

-it's clear the other guy didn't have a weapon as it would have been detected by the airport security scanner.

-also, very funny when he kicks in the 1st stall & the guy is on the toilet & says, 'hey, what are you?? some kind of freak!' 

It is not clear that he doesn't have a gun, people bring guns through airport security quite often today, so in the 80's it would be even easier. And that old guy on the crapper is pretty funny.
