ROFL...every time I hear Tammy's dad yell for her, it makes me think of Timmy on "South Park."

The accents in the film didn't sound much like they were from Maine. It clearly gave away the fact the film was shot in North Carolina and used local actors for the film's smaller parts.
In the original script, where Reverand Lowe refers to Durham, I suspect it was also set in North Carolina as well. I guess they decided that for it to be a real Stephen King film, it should be set in Maine. (Maybe King himself insisted on it.)
