So... do they go to jail?

The one thing I liked/kind of bothered me was the ending of the movie. I like that it ended on a personal note between brother and sister, and not an army of cops in the house, them reuniting with their parents, Red shaking somebody's hand being forgiven for being an irresponsible drunk and finding redemption, etc.

But they did leave one very important part out: What the hell happened after they called the cops?

Here you have a Holy Man, butt-ass naked in the corner of a living room, both his eyeballs shot out by Red's gun in the middle of what has been weeks of a town-wide murder-spree. What do they say to the cops? They even acknowledged earlier everybody would laugh in their face if they told them about a werewolf. And its not like the Priest was still in wolf-form; he transformed back into human-form.

It also brings up a question about the narration, the girl talking about how her brother and Uncle past-tense. Are both of the boys in prison and shes not?

It doesn't matter. The movie ends where it does so really, nothing happens afterwards. :)
I think with movies like this we are supposed to accept that it all worked out okay. But if you're really hung up on it there was enough evidence of the preacher's wrong doing that it was probably not tough to explain (minus the werewolf aspect of it).

I think she spoke about them in the past tense only because she was telling us a story about something that happened a long time ago. Nothing more.

"It's Minnie Pearl's murder weapon."

They have three witnesses (Red, Marty, Jane) who can confirm that the Reverand was in fact the killer and attacked them in their home. They were just defending themselves. They can probably get away with that without mentioning he was a werewolf too

Yeah why would they go to jail when the reverend broke into their house butt naked and tried to kill them?

reply

See, I always could buy the fact that they never told the authorities that a "werewolf" attacked them... however, how do you explain the huge gaping hole in their living room wall?

Clearly, a human could not do that. lol

well even the sheriff was killed by the werewolf, and the rest of the cops in that town seemed pretty inept lol

Considering that the house was clearly broken into and all three of them would've had their share of cuts and bruises, they could easily claim self-defense without anyone blinking an eye.

Agreed. All they had to say was that the Reverend broke into the house, attacked them, and they acted in self-defense.

There are a couple of points, however, one of them in favor of the three and one that might be problematic.

First, the favorable. This has to do with Lowe's clothing. Where were they? The problem this presents us with is that a naked man, especially a preacher, walking through a town strikes me as a very unlikely prospect. But in their favor would be that the clothing would not be on the premises.

The second item might be the presence of the gun. It strikes me that Red having it would be very fortuitous, and somewhat hard to explain. Maine has concealed carry licenses, but did Red have one? If he did, then no problem; there is nothing to explain. If Red did not have the license, then there could be a slight problem. Why did he have the gun there? Another thing just occurred to me and that was, why there was just one round? And why was there a silver bullet?

However, I still think that a claim of self-defense would succeed.

An old point, but regarding the gun issue.

What implies he had a concealed weapon that the police would look at. Households can have guns. Someone breaks into your home and you get your gun to defend yourself? Why should you have to explain why you have a gun in the home?
