Is the film better than the book?

I know, retarded question, of course the book is better.

How is the book? I haven't read it yet.

It was interesting reading the novelette years after I had first viewed the film. There are dramatic differences, but for me the book compliments the film.

The book had gory artwork. It was pretty cool.

This is one of the rare cases where the movie is better than the book. In the book there is absolutely no character development. Each "chapter" we meet a person and a few paragraphs later they're dead and the chapter is over. Marty and his Uncle Ted don't even show up until the middle of the book and one of the illustrations even gives away the werewolf's idenity before the chapter even begins.

Yeah I agree the movie is actually better in this case. I read the novelette in the fall of 1985, about a month after seeing the movie. It was a decent book, but I was a little disappointed after really loving the movie.

I think, due to the nature of the book, the book and movie are way too different to compare. They're almost completely separate stories. The book is more like an adult picture book and there is no real main character other than... the werewolf.

They're both good for what they are and neither is better than the other imo.

Well, darn; now I'm going to have to get the book. That the film is better than the book is unusual and is something that I gotta see.
