that hideous paint job on his house...
i have a special project of my own that requires basic knowledge of films up to 1970 and i watched "the computer wore tennis shoes" tonight.
i LOVE "real genius" and have seen it at least 30 times. it's a go to for strictly emotional reasons on days when i either succeed or fail in horrible frustration, and turn to it in need of inspiration, in ugly programming assignments for college. it's been that way through C#, java, assembly, C and a bunch of acronyms as i learned web programming.
that being said, i have to make the contention that there was a deliberate reference to "the computer wore tennis shoes". in that film, a kid whose brain became a genius computer is being held hostage by "bad guys" in a house. his fellow college kids converge on the house and start painting it; fooling a "bad guy" and they continue painting a particularly ugly color scheme.
in "real genius", the "bad guy" who exploits the "genius" is illegally building a house, and it has a bizarrely ugly color scheme that is very similar to what the kids are doing in "the computer wore tennis shoes".
i'm sure that it was a direct reference/homage. that's why i started with my approach and deep adoration of this film. it's a great inspiration to college students, especially those my age.
