Casualties during the battle at the third castle

Lord Ichimonji only kept 30 retainers with him…but the amount of people who died fighting for him at the third castle seems a lot more.

Am I missing something?

Keep in mind, Hidetora may have only had thirty warriors in his company, but there were also concubines and others accompanying him as well, I'm sure. Somewhere in the film it is stated that each one of his warriors was "worth a hundred mean", so we can deduce from this he had some skilled fighters in his personal retinue. Could they alone have put the level of battle we see in the film? The colored coordinated armies of Jiro and Taro grab most of our attention, so it might be easy to over-estimate the scale of the battle, which was mostly using arrows and muskets against a holed up enemy.

It's a good question though. Someone needs to do a body count on Hidetora's crew to see if Kuorsawa pulled a fast one or not.
