Need help with movie title

When I was quite a bit younger back in the late 70s/early 80s, HBO broadcast a movie set in Japan (I think) back in the ancient (feudal?) times. It depicted some of the warrior training in which elite (Shogun??!!) soldier wannabes were hung upside down and beaten (with whips, canes or something similar?) and if they even uttered a single sound, they were tossed out.
Another scene involved the attempted rape of a young girl by either a general or some high ranking military leader. I remember she was naked but she resisted and he beat her down. Then he then tried to kiss her and at first she let him. Then his eyes popped open suddenly--she had bitten his off tongue and then spit it out onto the ground.
That's about all I can remember about this movie. I can't recall the title of this picture. Is this it?! I can't remember if it was dubbed or subtitled either. I've tried searches here at IMDb but don't have enough info to find a match.
