Jiro vs. Saburo battle

Great movie, loved it, second time around really helped.

Quick observation about the battle between Jiro and Saburo. It was clear that Jiro could look across the field and see his brother and his forces, he even questioned why Saburo wasn't leaving to look for his father right away.

After Saburo's second in command moved all of his forces into the woods (when Saburo finally did leave to find his Father) Jiro and Kurogane looked surprised at the fire they were taking from the woods and Kurogane commented "They've moved into the woods" as if he hadn't seen them doing it. It looked pretty clear that they could look right across the field and see them moving into the woods.

Yes, that was odd. And then they went and attacked again and that was even odder. Still, it was an amazing spectacle to watch. I think the reason for this sequence was to illustrate what a pompous fool Jiro was.

The oddity of "Kurogane" comment "they've moved into the wood" might be due to the translation; it might be an assertion of an annoyance, rather than surprise.

In addition, the effectiveness of fire arms (in the woods or out in the open) has a lot to do with training so until you actually start the battle, you can't really tell if the enemy will be an easy rarget or a difficult one.

Thank you very much, that's a great point, and I think you're right... his reaction and his command seem to fit more of a context of annoyance instead of surprise.
