The Japanese "Godfather?"

After watching this film, I noted quite a few similarities with this film and "The Godfather." I know that Kurosawa loved using the theme of revenge in his films, but I can't help but wonder where he drew his inspiration from for this movie.

It was his take on "King Lear". In "King Lear" three daughters vie for attention and favoritism, and cause a cataclysmic war which costs the king his kingdom, and sends him into a state of madness.

In "RAN" Lord Ichimonji had three sons. The oldest who is next in line to inherit the throne, the second born who is jealous of his older brother, and the youngest who cares only for his father.

It's an incredible film. A Japanese take on a classic British play from the Elizabethan England.

The Godfather is an incredibly well shot film. You can't flaw Coppola's outstanding mastery of the medium. He is the US's "Kurosawa", so to speak (I hope that doesn't sound too backhanded).
