Jack Cardiff RIP

The recently departed Jack Cardiff was the director of photography on RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II.

Jack once directed a 1960's 'Rambo' style jungle thriller entitled THE MERCENARIES (aka DARK OF THE SUN). It was probably the most violent mainstream movie ever made before THE WILD BUNCH came along a year or so later in 1969. It was one tough b****** of a war movie with excellent performances from Rod Taylor, Jim Brown, Peter Carsten and Kenneth More. Fans have been crying out for a DVD release of this remarkable film, hopefully sooner rather than later! (and an audio commentary from Taylor and Brown would be cool too).
