I like the NW primordial scenery…..and many returning soldiers became anti war after Viet Nam….but lets face it…Stallone ran away to avoid service and lived in Sweden….only came back after the war was over…his preposterous treatment in the film by LE is a joke-ALL LE treated vets with respect……so not only did Stallone dodge the draft, and come back to be a "silver screen soldier" but the movie even *beep* on the USA……it was filmed in Hope, BC (Canada) to save a buck, while they pretended it was filmed in the USA-filmed in Hope, BC !
Weren't college attendees excluded from the draft? I remember hearing he went to an acting school in Switzerland or some $hit. Anyone dodging that war had a brain in their heads. In Nam you were basically gonna get your ass shot off in some bull$hit war that had no outcome or justification.
Either way who gives a $hit. The man makes fun movies. Being a real life war hero doesn't make you a good actor.
Instant cassettes. They're out in stores before the movie is finished!
I did hear some troubling information recently that Stallone was, in fact, never the Heavy Weight Champion of the World, as he portrayed as such in the Rocky films.
I respect anyone who avoided the draft. Vietnam was a totally unnecessary war. Had nothing to do with fighting for freedom or protecting the homeland. If I were alive during that time and draft eligible, I would have left the country as well. I would have volunteered for WWII, but all wars since then were not justified in my opinion.
In the end everybody should applaud everybody who has the brain and tries to avoid becoming a murderer and (child) rapist like so many soldiers turn into once their unleashed onto a "Battlefield". Like all soldiers (yes including those oh so heroic, brave americans) did in World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and everywhere else. War brings out the worst in people and not everybody wants to be turned into a piece of worthless *beep* like Chris Kyle.

So who is going to defend your freedom or save your ass if everyone thought like you? Not everyone returns from war all half crazed. I have heard from and talked to those who fought in WW2 and Korea and many were proud of their service and what they fought for. And knock it off with the diatribe against Chris Kyle. You're reacting to lies and smears by the looney leftl
Well, First Blood still feels like a somewhat anti-War film to me. It's basically about how damaged this guy was after serving in Vietnam. So many who did serve there became super anti-war and I've known of many who said they wished they'd gone to college to avoid the draft if they'd known how bad it would be. I don't blame him for not fighting in a war that he (I assume) didn't agree with and I don't think that's in conflict with First Blood.
HOWEVER, I do thinks it's kinda hypocritical when you look at Rambo: FBII. That movie is very pro-war and pro-Vietnam. Rambo gets told that he's going back and he says, "do we get to win this time?" Sure he's saving Vets but the war itself is no longer shown as something evil and soul-destroying. Instead, the only problem with Vietnam is that we didn't win and now we get to win. The way he's so willing to kill anyone who gets in his way (especially in the early scenes when the guards havn't attacked him and everyone says the camp doesn't have POWs), just shows how pro-War this movie is. Being in a film which promotes that kind of message when you dodged the draft is kinda hypocritical.
John Wayne not serving in World War Two left a bigger blot on the Duke's legacy, though most real military of that era didn't give a crap. These are ACTORS, after all. And many Hollywood conservatives thought Iraq was a mistake, including Stallone.
John Wayne was not medically able to serve in the military. This has been disputed by some, but his sons Patrick and Michael have seen his 4F disqualification paperwork and have verified its authenticity with the military. He couldn't serve, so he honored those who did serve on film.
