Question about Colonel Trautman's uniform?

In the movie Colonel Sam Trautman wore the traditional olive drab green
battle dress uniform or BDU. Which was worn by all US Army soldiers
in the Vietnam War. However in the early '80's both the army and the
Marines switched over to woodland camouflage BDUs. And Rambo II took
place in the mid-'80's with the release date of 1985. So then why
was Trautman not wearing the updated version of the uniform? I have
been curious about this subject and have watched the fim again
today on BBCA.

MERDC camoflage was not universally used until the late 1980s.

Great question! I think the drab uniform works aesthetically better for the film.
