Wimp

Trautman is the biggest Pussy of all time. He lets people tell him what to do. He lets everyone walk all over him. and if he's supposed to be a Colonel, let alone a trainer of " killing machines ", then why does he do absolutely nothing??? I know.. cause he a Big Pussy and the wimpest of Wimps. What a Tool ..

......and he only visits or calls Rambo when he wants something done (the dirty work). He was great in "First blood", but after that he's a user.

reply

Yep and that to..lol

Trautman's situation is not that simple. He's a colonel, yes, but Murdoc is a goddamned United States senator, a much higher rank even compared to Trautman's. Basically, Murdoc's with the gang that pays for the whole party they're having, so you can bet your ass Trautman, as a member of the official military subject to the senate's rule, has no choice but to bend over and take it up the rear like a pussy. In the military, you don't go against the chain of command without repercussions. You follow orders, or face the consequences. No what ifs or buts about it.

Are you perhaps suggesting that Trautman should've just started to shoot up the place, like Rambo did later? Then who's gonna come with him to the rescue mission? The mercenaries? Oh no. They're are private contractors who get paid by Murdoc, so Trautman has zero authority over them. They would not obey him. And Trautman is not hardcore enough to take on all of Viet Cong by himself. Also, criminal charges for insubordination are a thing.

As for Trautman taking advantage of Rambo... You'd be right if this were Rambo III, but here Trautman was just trying to get Rambo pardoned (the incentive he was offered for cooperation), so he could get out of prison and back to normal life sooner. Not that strange or suspicious in the end, now is it?

reply

Oh..well then there's my problem. I honestly did not know that Murdoch was a US senator. Now it all makes sense.

reply

>I honestly did not know that Murdoch was a US senator.

That's because he wasn't a U.S. senator. Shockproof_Jamo was just making stuff up. As far as I know, the movie never establishes Murdock's occupation, only that he's a "stinking bureaucrat" according to Trautman. According to this site - http://rambo.wikia.com/wiki/Marshall_Murdock - he's a "CIA field officer bureaucrat". CIA makes a lot more sense than a senator. Senators don't head up military missions.

Murdock's goons basically held trautman at gunpoint anytime he tried to do something in this movie.

reply

Probably the greatest film that will ever be made. The nunances in this masterpiece will be discovered in time.

reply

He was held at gunpoint when he tried to force Ericson to land and then was placed under arrest when he tried to arrange another rescue mission. Everyone at that based was paid by Murdock and therefore took orders from him, not Trautman.

Chain of command, man. Chain of command.

reply

To summarize what others have said the men at the secret base in Thailand were only taking orders from Murdoch and no doubt Murdoch controlled the flow of money there including the merc's getting paid. Trautman had no leverage whatsoever in the matter.

John J. is a little slack jawed, a little dopey eyed here. In the charter he's alert, still a soldier, looking for payback even before that king shit sheriff shows up.
