What were our moms thinking?

Now I am probably in the majority here. I was born in 1984, and my mom rented this for me (more than once) from the local video store. I didn't think much of it at the time, except that it was scary. But looking back on the film, I can't imagine a more disturbing, f'd up children's film. My mom must have been out of her mind. Anybody else wonder what your mom was thinking when she rented this for you? Or did you actually rent it yourself as an adult?

Yes! This movie scared me really bad when I was little! That part where the dog's chased the kid and dragged him into the next frame and his head was a skeleton! That part stuck in my head for a long time. It was so weird and creepy. I havent seen it sense but i'd like to revisit it to bring the details together.

Ha, I know! Not that it really scared me (or my sister) when we were little, but it was super creepy. Maybe it did scare us - I think we first watched it when we were about six, and probably many times after that until we were around ten. I can't remember. Anyway, I was describing the plot to a friend the other day when I realised just how bizarre and unsuitable it really was! Ah, good times. They just don't make "kids'" movies like that anymore.

maybe there's hope...

Yea, my mom rented it for my brother and I...it was like some sort of cruel joke. I just have a feeling she expected movies in the family section to be ok for kids...lol.

Same thing happened for me. I was born in 1980 and my mom showed us this movie when I was young. I was scared! A few years ago, I saw the movie on TV, and it's still weird.

thats too funny! that same comment allways comes out of my mouth when remembering screwed up kids movies my mom showed me.

our parents must have been coming outta the foggy weed haze of the 60's and 70's and thought "this movie sounds GREAT!" LOL!!

i was surprised to find out another movie she rented for us was ray bradburrys "the electric grandma." who knew she was giving us so much culture? scary as it was.....

i also hated the "the last unicorn." loved it as a child...but watch it again as a adult its ABDURD and really BAD.

too funny!
