Weird memories!

Like many, I had seen this film, repressed (what I remember as) some of the dark and disturbing parts, and thought the whole thing might have just been a dream or nightmare until I came here and realized it wasn't.

But there's another film that I must've seen very close to seeing this film, a film that for the life of my I can't remember. It's a strange movie my sisters watched a lot when I was younger. It has some strange puppets in it, and the goal of the main character is to go into some wicked witch's realm and retrieve some magic tomatoes (or cherries or something similar) that will heal you, somehow; she's trying to bring them back to her world (through a mirror? I can't recall) to save her dying grandfather. And it's all sorts of craziness - I think I remember a moment where they open a door to a new realm and the whole world has shifted 90 degrees and they have to walk in a strange way - but finally the girl/woman/I don't remember succeeds, brings the tomatoes back, but she slips and they roll on the floor and just disappear in some kind of strange magic puff.

It's not Labyrinth, but those are the kinds of films my sisters watched back then. Any help on what this film is would be much appreciated.

I never would have remembered this movie had it not been for the game Balderdash that I played with some friends. Part of the game is to guess or make up plots to obscure movies, and one of them was The Peanut Butter Solution. Reading the title meant nothing to me, but when I read the plot "A boy goes into a haunted house, loses his hair, and his hair is used to make paint brushes" something clicks in my head and I remember actually seeing this movie. Everyone playing the game thought I was insane except my boyfriend who, in the same sort of shock that I was, suddenly remembered that he had seen it too! I only remember bits and pieces, such as the hair being pulled off in the soccer game, and the boy running down the street with his hair flying everywhere. And some sort of slide thing that he comes out of the haunted house on. What a freaky movie! Now I'm dying to see it again to remember the rest of it.
I have a question about another obscure movie that my boyfriend and I both slightly remember, does anyone out there remember a movie about a boy who thinks he's found a lake monster but it turns out to be a construction crane?

that movie is quest or frog dreaming (in australia).....i jes ordered it off amazon.com

remember when he makes a scuba outfit with his fishbowl? or scares his mom/stpemom with the chicken foot?

LOL! it absolutely FRIGHTENED me....and i am pretty sure that the boy is eli from ET.

i saw this movie too! i always thought it was a popple (spelling?) movie or something. i didn't remember this until i read your post. that girl trips coming out of the mirror, spills her magic cherries and is told by the huggabunch that SHE HAD THE MAGIC IN HER ALL ALONG!

i think wondershowzen did a parody of that movie... the shoogy boogy bunch.
