Krueger was absolutely vicious in this one

Freddy's portrayal in this movie was actually pretty terrifying. The pool party massacre was insane. I wish the later movie had stuck with this Freddy as opposed to the joke he would become.

That's why I love this Nightmare. Despite its 80s campiness and all the super gay overtones, it's dark, surreal and morbid and Krueger is menacing as hell in it. My favorite Nightmare by far.

When it comes to this movie, some like to equate "serious" with "vicious" or "terrifying." This was Freddy at his most serious, sure, but he was far more vicious and/or terrifying in parts one and three. Next to Freddy vs. Jason, I'd argue that this is him at his least effective as a predator. Whenever Jesse absolutely decided that he wouldn't do his bidding, that was basically it for Krueger.

Yes I agree he was really vicious in this movie, and the later movies he became a comedian and cracked jokes before killing his victims. They should have made just the first two movies and not the movies when he became a joke.

This is probably my favorite portrayal from Robert Englund! OK, maybe it's tied with the original, but while he had some good moments in part three (His movements and his scenes in the underworld lair), he was more effective in one and two.

Really wish they'd make one final movie with Robert playing it like he did in this one and the original, with better makeup and a darker tone!

Kreuger was fecklessly malevolent in this movie. More of a bully for show who backed down when stood up to. His bark was loud but his bite wasn't that vicious.

reply

Yeah, I mean Freddy basically crumbled after getting a smooch on the lips from that chick. Not exactly vicious if you ask me.

Freddy was an amalgam for the main character's homosexuality, he was defeated and destroyed by the power of heterosexual love.

reply

Yeah, I'd say this was him at his scariest. The sequels he was just more a bully with supernatural powers. In this and the first one he was much more demonic and sinister. I don't count New Nightmare since it wasn't really Freddy to begin with.

I think he's pretty nasty in this one as well. They even based a fairground ride on it when I was a kid and it still exists (or has been replicated) recently.
