Watched the trilogy for the first time, this is my favorite!

So I've watched all 3 Mad Max movies this week for the first time, so I didn't had any nostalgic feelings towards them.

I thought the first was quite boring and was kind of ruined for me by the imdb plot outline ''A vengeful Australian policeman sets out to avenge his partner, his wife and his son whom were murdered by a motorcycle gang in retaliation for the death of their leader.'', which is basically the ending not the plot, resulting in me waiting the entire movie for the 'plot' to kick in. Anyways, it was obviously low budget, in that perspective not bad at all, but I didn't really care for it beyond that.

The second one was a lot better! Loved the vibe, kind of gritty with gore and nudity which I guess was typical for action movies in that time period (they don't really make them like that anymore), it did feel a little dated at times, but still quite fun.

Now then, Beyond Thunderdome. I actually didn't plan on watching this one after having read about it's reputation but decided to put it on anyways. What immediately struck me was the epic scope of the story and visuals, which was absolutely amazing at times! I do see why people dislike it as it takes a drastic turn from the previous movies with a more star wars-like family adventure story, but to be honest I liked this even better, felt like a much more timeless story, especially in contrast with the Road Warrior (probably the main reason I like Thunderdome a little better). Only real downside for me was Tina Turner, I liked the villain in The Road Warrior a lot better but other than that; great story, great action scenes, good music and awesome cinematography; I simply cannot help but liking Beyond Thunderdome the most!

I too re-watched the trilogy recently because I hadn't seen them in years and had only seen parts of Thunderdome.

I agree with your points about the first and second movies however I get the impression that I enjoyed the first film more than you did. The second movie is indeed awesome and pretty much the core of what Mad Max is. The wandering loner with impressive survival skills including the ability to kill other humans yet maintains some of his humanity and empathy and unleashes his wrath on the scumbags and treacherous.

I definitely agree with you about the third film. From reading comments and reviews, I went with low expectations about the movie and was pleasantly surprised that I actually enjoyed it despite the more toned down violence and the more bittersweet atmosphere in comparison to the grittier and darker second movie.

I too like the third film and think that it doesn't deserve the hate it often gets.

I'm same as OP....I only remember tiny pieces of Road Warrior when I was about 7 or 8 (I always remembered him eating dog food...lol).

So watched the first Mad Max yesterday and watched Mad Max 2 this morning and finished Thunderdome a little while ago.

If i had a "fav" it was definitely Road Warrior...this was the least best...though I will say Tina's "We don't need another hero" at end credits kicks MUCH a$$ and still gets play on the radio today.

My IMDB ratings (just put in yesterday and today:

Mad Max: 7/10
Mad Max 2: 8/10
Thunderdome: 5/10

THunderdome was definitely a tale of 2 Max's...2 different movies IMO. A good first half followed by the Lost Boys (from Peter Pan) meets Mad Max.

I'm not trying to sound like an *beep* but the OP feels so generic and lame, as if it was written by some Facebook-bot judging movies on criteria that only matter to Christian parents trying to pick out the best films to watch with their young children.

Am I just crazy? I feel like I could be reading this review off some Christian Family Facebook-blog. Maybe to some people that's a good thing, and maybe OP will even take it as a compliment, but ugh.

In my opinion, and keep in mind it's my biased opinion, but it's generic PC *beep* like this that is seeping into every type of publication these days and it just makes everything seem so disgustingly sanitized.

To make it a little more clear, I feel like I could be reading the OP's review off some FAQ Page on Facebook, some robotic PC sanitized response in reply to some question from an actual person.
